Keeping on with the trend of the last post, this is part two of a four part series, covering some new faces in the SUV segment in the Indian marketplace. Like mentioned earlier, the post includes not face-lifts, but new generation models of existing SUVs and also some freshers in the Indian market. The last post covered the Audi Q2, the Q5, the Mahindra S201, the Tata Q501 and also the Jeep Renegade.
Since the Suzuki Brezza would soon be produced under a Toyota badge, it makes sense for a new compact SUV from Maruti to enter the market. The question is,
Will they build an entirely new SUV or not?
The most likely answer is, no. There have been rumors of a new compact SUV to hit the Indian shores this year, and which compact SUV has Suzuki offered in the past? That’s right. Suzuki Jimny. But, this is not the first time when the Jimny enters the Indian market.
In fact, it has been around since the 80s, and we all have seen it.
Confused? Well, here’s a hint. Indian Army uses it to date. Remember the humble Gypsy? What if I told you that it in fact is the Second Generation Suzuki Jimny?
Yes, it has always been around us, in every Natural Reserve and every rally event. Let’s get to the important bits now.
The most important question which needs answering is the price at which the Jimny will come to India.
The Suzuki Jimny would be priced between INR 7-10 lacs in India. Other websites have listed it at a cost of INR 6 lacs, mainly due to its humble power output of 65hp.
But, then there are also factors like…
The 4×4 with which it comes equipped. The current Gypsy is listed at INR 5 lacs, and it has zero creature comforts, while, the Jimny, being a passenger vehicle will come with AirCon, infotainment system, navigation, etc. Also, we need to take into accord the fact that Suzuki has promised passenger vehicles to come equipped with ABS as standard across all variants. Suddenly all other websites seem quite dumb, don’t they?
Along with the exterior images, some interior images were also leaked.
In case you were wondering what the next Jimny would be like from the inside, here’s your answer.
Can’t wait to see the Jimny in the marketplace? Neither can I! Let me know about your thoughts in the comment section below about the Suzuki Jimny.
