For the past few years now, the undisputed winners of the compact SUVs have been Ford. The EcoSport with the revolutionary EcoBoost engine under its hood, drove right by its competition. After our views on the 2017 Ford EcoSport, Ford teased the market with a new version, and India is set to witness its arrival this November.
The new 2018 Ford EcoSport comes with four trim levels – S, SE, SES and Titanium. The exterior of the car is consistent with the older version. You have your roof-rack side rails with crossbars, a large meshed radial grille with dual slats, LED signature lighting and halogen projector headlamps, and a new tail lamp design. Furthermore, the car is installed with a power moonroof, allowing you to help yourself to some natural lighting.
The new EcoSport retains the award winning 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine, with direct injection, producing 124bhp. The Indian market will see two other alternatives. The 1.5-liter Ti-VCT three-cylinder Dragon engine, naturally aspirated to produce 120bhp, and the 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine, producing 100bhp. The transmission options comprise a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In addition, the EcoSport now comes with Intelligent 4-wheel-drive and a sport-tuned suspension, hence providing a more comfortable and smooth drive.
The interior of the car doesn’t see much change in comparison to its predecessor. The color tone is a gloss black with copper accents. Another option is a beige-black combination. The dashboard design comprises of a new center console, with a reduction in the number of buttons to give it simplicity. You have the freedom of stretching out your legs as a result of the spacious interior.
Ford have filled the car with heaps of technology. Most noteworthy is the new full-color 8-inch LCD touchscreen with swipe and pinch-to-zoom navigation. Also, the EcoSport comes with SYNC 3, Apple Play and Android Auto connectivity. The 10-speaker B&O Play Premium audio system is another standard feature. Another addition is the BLIS, or Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert. BLIS uses radar technology to watch out for traffic in the immediate vicinity. Other features include a rear-view camera, two fast-charge USB ports a 12-volt outlet and cold weather packages.
While the 2018 Ford EcoSport will have to deal with competition such as the Honda WR-V and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, it is surely going to put up a tough fight. In conclusion, you could argue that the EcoSport puts itself up as a very good investment.
